Bibliophile Lindsay Schultz Opens The Spine Bookshop in Smyrna
An avid reader her whole life, Lindsay Schultz has always dreamed of owning a bookstore. After moving to Smyrna and discovering the town didn't have one, Lindsay decided it was time to make her dream a reality. She started collecting new and used books from estate sales, yard sales and through donations, to build up an inventory and now has plenty of great reads in her online store, The Spine Bookshop. It currently operates as an independent shop out of Lindsay's home but there are plans to eventually open a physical storefront in Smyrna.

In addition to the books available for purchase online, there are some available at Carpe Cafe in Smyrna. At The Spine Bookshop, you'll find books across many different genres; everything from religion, romance, and self-help to sci-fi, business, and children's books. Lindsay doesn't just focus on mainstream authors, either. She sells books written by independent authors and especially loves supporting authors local to Tennessee. One way she adds a special touch to her business is by wrapping books in a cute and unique way whenever someone purchases one to be shipped. This top-secret touch can only be revealed through an online book purchase.
While the selection at The Spine isn't as broad as larger bookstores, part of Lindsay's mission is to create a community of book lovers in Smyrna and give back to the community in the process. She has teamed up with other businesses in Smyrna on a cross-promotional project where she will have a book booth that doubles as an event space for book signings and other author events. Check The Spine's events calendar for dates and details.

The Spine Bookshop also hosts a monthly book club, featuring a new book and author each month. This event is often held online, through The Spine's Facebook page, where readers can discuss the book and chat with the author. Plans to host the book club at Lindsay's book booth and subsequent brick and mortar location are in the works.
Watch the interview with Lindsay (known to some as "the book lady") below, where she talks more about her passion for reading, and shares some of her all-time favorite books and authors. She's big into YA (young adult), dark romance, and paranormal fiction. Books with strong female characters? She's all about those. But as any devout book lover knows, it's incredibly hard to pick an all-time favorite. Any guesses as to what some of hers are?
