Behind the Scenes With Stand-Up Comedian Brian Bates
He went from working behind the scenes at WTVF News Channel 5 in Nashville to being front and center on comedy stages across the country. Stand-up comedian Brian Bates is a clean comedy performer who genuinely enjoys making people laugh. His time at Channel 5 gave him the opportunity to become a master content creator, which has helped him in his career as a comic.
As a husband and new father, he pulls from his personal life to come up with jokes. Luckily, his wife is very supportive, even during the times he tests out new jokes at her expense. If you look at his social media pages, you'll sometimes catch his wife making cameos in his videos. It all started with a comedy class he took 16 years ago. From there, he started doing open mics, honing his craft and learning all the tricks that stand-up comedians use. He then started booking gigs and now tours all around the United States. |
In addition to doing stand-up, Brian is co-host of The Nateland Podcast with fellow Nashville-based comedians Nate Bargatze, Aaron Weber, and Dusty Slay.
Unlike most podcasts that have a very specific theme, this one is about...pretty much anything. Brian himself does most of the topic research for episodes, and comes up with talking points like the meaning of the color purple, fun facts about states, and why male seahorses become pregnant instead of females. (So, totally random things.) As a dad, he also occasionally talks about his daughter and shares musings with his fellow co-host fathers. Basically, if it's something four dudes want to talk about, they'll talk about it. But they'll keep it clean, of course. You can listen to the podcast on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. New episodes come out every Wednesday. You never know what the guys will talk about next! To learn more about Brian and find out where you can catch him performing live, check the calendar on his website. And make sure to watch his full Dry Bar Comedy special. |
