Behind the Scenes With Bailey James
She's a mere 16 years old but she's already accomplished more than many of her elders could hope to accomplish in a lifetime. Bailey James is a singer/songwriter who grew up listening to classic country artists like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Patsy Cline and was later exposed to artists like Nirvana and Prince. Now, she's paving the way for her own music career, fusing her early influences to help her develop a sound that is all her own.
Her new single, "Devil Won't Take Me Down" is a song penned by Bailey, Julie Downs and Steve O'Brien. After experiencing the heart-wrenching death of her older brother by suicide, Bailey took her sadness and used it as fuel for her music. She's also the National Youth Advocate for The Jason Foundation, Inc., which brings awareness to mental health issues and suicide prevention. She discusses this role, as well as her future music plans (playing mud parks), in the interview below.
You can listen to "Devil Won't Take Me Down" anywhere you stream music. It's also playing on several country radio stations so be sure to request it on yours!
