A Woman and Her Dog: Introducing The Athena Workshop

Behind every incredible woman is an adorable dog who inspires her. OK, not really - women are superheroes in their own rights. But in the case of The Athena Workshop, founder Megan does find purpose in the deep brown eyes of her beloved sidekick and business' namesake, Athena.

Athena plays an important role as Assistant to the Regional Manager, which really means she begs Megan for treats by taking advantage of the infamous puppy dog face many children use on their parents. Works like a charm every time!

Megan began quilting around the age of 12, when she took an interest in her mother's quilting hobby; she was her mother's helper in the sewing room. She's now the creator, designer, and quilter at The Athena Workshop. Her designs are modern and minimalist, with clean lines and use only up to five bright colors. She focuses on designs that bring a sense of peace, joy, and stillness; designs that are calming and soothe both the mind and the eyes.

The quilts are sold on The Athena Workshop website and Etsy page, and digital quilting patterns are also available. The patterns are accessible to quilters of all levels and abilities, with multi-language patterns coming soon. (Stay tuned!)

At the core of The Athena Workshop is the principle that where we spend our money is important since we live in a highly political climate and our values are reflected in the purchases we make. The Athena Workshop stands for:

  • full and free creative and artistic expression
  • free and accessible education for all
  • the protection of our planet and all life on it
  • the elimination of all forms of oppression, including racism and gender-based violence

With the goal of contributing to the eradication of oppression and violence in the world, a portion of proceeds from some quilt and pattern sales goes to support agencies and organizations working with victims of domestic violence. Visit The Athena Workshop to learn more.
