Breaking into the country music industry is an already challenging feat. Add being a woman and a Latina to the mix, and the top of the glass ceiling gets exponentially higher. But that's not stopping singer/songwriter Andrea Vasquez from pursuing her musical dreams.
Growing up in a musical family, Andrea was exposed to many different genres of music and has been well integrated into the business since she was young. Her influences range from '90s pop artists like Britney Spears to iconic country singers like Dolly Parton. Now she's paving her own path with original music like her current single, "Used To." The song was co-written with David Espinoza and calls attention to the way romance dies in a relationship once it's past the honeymoon phase. Reflective and somber, "Used To" tugs at listeners' emotions with a relatable theme of heartbreak.

While Andrea does write mostly from personal experience, her songs have a universal appeal. This, along with her natural talent, could be her saving grace when it comes to her music career, as the country music industry does not have a strong proclivity for Latin artists. Fellow Latinas Jennifer Lopez and Selena Quintanilla-Pérez found mainstream success in the pop music realm but for Andrea, country music is where her heart resides.
She's hopeful that because of emerging Latin country artists like Kat & Alex, she'll be welcomed into the country music family with open arms. Her unwavering determination and desire to diversify country music have her well on her way to becoming a success story that future generations of aspiring country artists who share her heritage will strive to emulate.
